Firstplay Dietary Foods is a family run
company formed in 1993 by Steve and Linda Fletcher to produce Promin
Low Protein dietry products from a small factory in Stockport, where
only low protein food products are produced.
Steve has been in PKU - (Phenylketonuria) food manufacture for 18
years and continues to develop their range of low protein meal solutions,
available under the Promin brand.
With a phenylalanine-restricted diet PKU
children can develop normally. It is imperative that women with
PKU should be on a low phenylalanine diet before or from early pregnancy
to reduce the risk of fetal abnormality.
Promin pasta launched 9 years ago and is well established in the
PKU market. Promin pasta is exported to 6 countries as well as being
available on prescription in the UK.
Our mission
To provide a range of products which will consistently support PKU
patients and their families. We aim for the Promin brand to deliver
innovation, convenience and taste.
What is PKU
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a genetic disorder that is
characterized by an inability of the body to utilize the
essential amino acid, phenylalanine. Amino acids are the building
blocks for body proteins. 'Essential' amino acids can only be obtained
from the food we eat as our body does not normally produce them.
